Everyone who knows me knows that I strongly advocate breastfeeding. So, it'll come as no surprise that when I saw this quote today by new mom to twins, Desperate Housewives actress, Marcia Cross, I had to publish it:

"My life is more organized for sure. But it's not like I'm
cooking! I'm breastfeeding - I feel like that's the best cooking I could
do."

Family Update

It's well into April now and, surprisingly, the snow is rapidly melting here in Fairbanks. We've bought Olivia some much needed mud boots. You'll notice that she's fully dressed in the picture. She's usually found wearing just boots. Olivia is potty training and while it's going fairly well, I find it increasingly hard to keep her fully clothed!

Olivia is saying some really funny (and some not-so-funny/annoying) things lately. I've been meaning to journal the new things she says. I have the journal. It's really pretty sitting there on my shelf; it's unfilled pages waiting for some long over-due entries. My goal for this year was to manage my time better. So far I haven't had any success. At any rate, here's a few of Olivia's most recent lines:

  • "Lila, I'm the boss."

  • To Matt's XO: "Devin, you sit down right here, right now!"

  • "I NEED it!"

  • "I wanna snack!"

  • "Daddy fart!"

  • "Here's your taggie, Lila." She'll give Lila her taggie when she starts to cry.

  • "I wanna watch TV right now!"

  • "Yeeaah, we're home." As we drive near our house

  • "Nali ate my food."

  • "Daddy home!"

  • "I wanna see Cypin!" (Her cousin, Cyprien)

  • And, of course: "I have to go potty."

Yesterday, Olivia fed Lila a Craisin. I saw it happen and ran, in what felt like slow motion, to get it out of her mouth before she swallowed it. Too late. When Lila's doctor warned us that Olivia was her greatest danger, I should have listened.

Lately, I haven't gotten much sleep. For a week, Lila slept 12-hours straight. I didn't know what to do with myself. She's back to sleeping 5-6 hours at a time. Meaning she's up twice. That's not too bad. However, Liv is up 2-3 times a night screaming to go pee. Matt helps when he can wake up. I'll give him credit in that he's a great help when he is able to get up and act in a coherent manner!

Speaking of Matt - he is working a lot. But, I'm grateful that we don't have a deployment in the near future. We're enjoying time as an unseparated family. Lila's nearing the age that Olivia was when Matt deployed. So, he'll be seeing some things that he missed with Olivia and I'm excited about that.
