Vacation Practice

Warning: Some Adult Content and Bragging

While my Tuesday afternoon babysitter folded our laundry, mopped floors, washed dishes, cleaned toilets, picked up toys (I do not ask or suggest she do this and rarely pay her extra for it) and waited for the girls to wake up from their naps, I ran an errand, came back home, parked the car and decided to practice being on vacation (well, I practice being on vacation everyday here, but I practiced extra-hard today) by walking a couple of blocks to the local beachfront eatery.

I read a chapter of this book, sipped on this alcoholic beverage, enjoyed the breeze, sun, view and observed the following:

  • Young teenagers practice their footwork and heading skills. These 13 to 15-year-olds could out rival most American high school varsity soccer players.
  • Tried to ignore a young (college age) couple dry h*mp on the beach. Much later, they stood up and proceeded to make out, in an erotic manner, for a very extended amount of time. All the while, they were right next to several young families. No one batted an eye. I see this all the time and, yet, I still can't get over it.
  • Observed a woman and her friend search for her bikini top that a wave, obviously, took with it. She did not attempt to conceal herself and did not seem embarrassed in any way whatsoever. She's an attractive young woman and none of the young men on the beach seemed to give her topless self any notice.

I came home to a clean house and one child still sleeping. The only thing pending, that could mar this day, is that I have no idea what to make for dinner. I was too busy practicing for vacation to get to the grocery store...

What a fun (and funny) afternoon! Gosh, what did I do in Fairbanks? Hung out at Freddies. Watched puddles fill with rain. (Wish I was there!!)

Natalie...you have the life. And, why are you calling going on vacation going on vacation when you are already on vacation????

You live a good life, Nat. I must say I'm a bit (ok a lot) jealous!

Hey - how are you enjoying the book? I read it a year or so ago and fell in love with it. Very inspirational!

I lurk...I click on your link through Katie's link...I don't understand the day babysitter thing. Maybe you have described it before but I'm new to your blog.

Lysandra, I lurk on your blog too.

Daytime babysitter: I used to use hourly care on post in Alaska a few days a week. Nothing like that here. So, on Tuesday afternoons, a woman comes and babysits for three hours while I do groceries/errands, hang out on the beach, get a break from the girls, etc. We use a different woman if/when we go out to dinner on the wknds (restaurants don't open here until 7:00-8:00 - so we rarely bring kids out to dinner w/us).

That's hilarious! It sounds like you had a relaxing day. I hope to have one of those one of these days, but for now, Tate is attached to me like a parasite -- I can't seem to shake him:-)

I hope that all is well. Take care and say "hi" to the family for me.

Just finshed the book 2 nights ago. I would've been a good one for book club. What did you think of it?

I've been so busy on vacation, I haven't finished it. I like it. Liked Italy the best, not loving India...I'll let you know what I end up thinking when I finish. Would be great for book club.

So funny. I loved India. In fact, is why I loved the book. Look forward to your take on Inodonesia.
