Left Up to Olivia...

...that is what she would wear every day (or something like it). Let's not even begin to describe how difficult it is to get her to change her mind after she's put something like this on!

PS: The top is a size 12-18 months dress. The shoes are 1.5 sizes too small and are starting to hurt her feet. I'm all about choices, don't get me wrong. I let her wear so many outfits of her choice, that when she's a teenager, she'll look at pictures and yell at me for letting her look like I did. This outfit is one of her more hilarious choices.

Why try to change her? She's adorable, if quirky. Anyone who has kids understands and if someone doesn't understand, well, you don't need to worry about them.

I should post some pictures of my kids' daily wardrobe choices. (When I told them to pick out something green on St. Patrick's Day ... whew, they could have broken the mirror!) But I would much rather them pick out their own clothes and dress themselves (even if they do end up looking "unique") than have them rely on me to do it every day or, worse, get into a major fight with them over what I think they should wear. I've found that if I encourage them to pick out their own outfits most days, when I do pick something out for them (like for church) they don't mind at all.

What's wrong with the outfit? It basically matches, to a 4 year old's eyes, anyway.

Ashlyn really wanted to pick out her own clothes around 2. I remember taking her to church around that time with a pastel floral dress and red socks. She was so proud, I didn't want to hurt her feelings. And, I agree with Holly, I'm all for giving kids choices. I have felt the need to explain some of her choices. Oh, I forgot about her black boots. They were cute with some outfits, but she LOVED them and wanted to wear them all of the time. My friends laughed at her. Oh, well. She was two.

We've given up trying to dress Simone. Some days are worse than others, but I trust that the majority of the population knows that we had nothing to do with the clothing combo:)

Ah, the size issue. I couldn't tell size from the picture. If you only have one kid, you can put away the clothes when they don't fit. But with more than one, how do you convince one child that his brothers awesome Spider Man shoes (which are 2 sizes too big or too small) are a "no go"? That's a tough one! Good luck. :) (And keep those pictures. True blackmail material!)

I love the outfit! She's adorable in it:-)
On another note: Thanks for the bread recipe -- I made it last night and had some for lunch today. It's yummy and moist. If you come across any more great recipes, send them my way.
Hope you guys are having fun with family. Take care...

I love it. It always makes me smile when you can tell a little one picked out their outfit.

Parker wore a firefighter's rain coat and red rainboot every where. We once went to the mall with him dressed up as a lion. Oooh, I loved it when he would wear a winter hat (in the summer), a shirt, a diaper, Will's socks (then went up to Parker's thighs) and yellow rain boots! I have a picture of that one. I love it! I think it shows a very creative child and a very understanding and supportive mom. :)
