Observations Made During Sick Days

  • Realized Olivia was really sick when she put herself down for a nap, slept three hours straight and asked to go to bed two hours later.
  • All those stained t-shirt and toddler clothes I had been saving for "art time" but never used, finally came in handy. Motrin and Tylenol drips really didn't make those shirts look any worse than they already were.
  • Fevers were being handed out like candy. Therefore, I found myself barely flinching when Olivia's temperature hit 104.9. Instead, I gave her some Motrin and asked DH to put her promptly back to bed.
  • My dog thinks snotty tissues are the best dog treats ever. I also think he finds great amusement in watching me pick up the wet bits of tissue he leaves behind (lesson: dirty tissues get flushed down the toilet or thrown in a garbage basket with a lid he can't get off). Worse yet, he thinks handkerchiefs are even tastier and will rip those to shreds too!
  • After a couple days of medicine protests, Lila finally realized that they make her feel better and started asking for medicine!
  • Sudafed does nothing to help a feverish mother, with two sick kids (well, three if you include my DH) control her temper. That stuff will give you the worst case of PMS ever.

The one question I've been asking myself, and can't answer is this:

We all have the same thing here. I just want to sleep ALL DAY. I would if I could. Why don't my kids? They feel as bad as I do...

Under the Weather and Still Making Us Laugh

Liv is sick again (notice red upper lip in picture above and lethargic, spaced-out pose below). Last night, her fever peaked at 104.5. Her lips are now cracked and scabbed. Though, her viral pink-eye subsided just as I was about to give her antibiotic eye gel and her fever broke this morning. She's still coughing, sneezing and wiping snot on her sleeve. As she starts to improve, DH, Lila and I are frequently digging into the medicine cabinet and reaching for tissues.

Somehow, whenever she is sick, she finds a way to smile and musters up energy to play with her dolls or stuffed bears and she always finds a way to get us all laughing.

Like this morning - We had to run and errand (read: cold medicine run). On the way home from the store, I just about drove off the road and into the ocean when she said the following:

"Mom, can you find a place to stop? My bear can't sit in his poop any longer. He'll get a rash. So, I have to change him right now. That's why you need to find a place to stop. Okay? So, I'll look for a spot for you..."

Cascais Lights - 2008

The battery in my camera was dying the other night. But, I was able to snag a few shots of the downtown lights in Cascais.

The above shot was as my battery conked out for good. If I get a better shot of the street above, I'll replace this photo with a better one because it really is beautiful. I love gold and red lights.

If we make it into Lisbon one night this weekend, I'll try to take some photos of their lights and display them in a separate post.

Quotes

It's that time again. Here are some of the cute things the girls are saying:

"I like to move it move it, move it move it. Move it!" - Olivia and Lila - from the movie, Madagascar II

Olivia

"I need a break from school/swimming lessons today." - Olivia

"So, I don't want to go to school today. What are we going to do about that?" - Olivia

"So, I've thought about it and..." - Olivia in response to something she's been thinking about.

"I'm writing the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) right now." - Olivia as she sits down with pen and paper and begins to write.

"Can you put on some ballet music for me, mommy?" - Olivia

Lila

"You hurt me, mommy/daddy!" - Lila in response to anything that she feels hurt her. This would include putting a shirt or diaper on her.

"Hello Kitty! Hello Kitty!" - Lila as we pass Hello Kitty store advertisements

"Play Duffy, Mommy! Play Duffy! Duffy, Mommy!" - Lila screaming for me to put on Duffy, a new favorite music artist I recently downloaded.

"My belly hurt." - Lila

"I sick." - Lila (it's possible she's becoming a hypocondriac...).

"I bite my tongue, mommy!" - Lila

"Thank you, you're welcome." - Lila

"I all done night-night! Mommy!!! I ALLLL DONE NIGHT-NIGHT! I go downstairs!" - Lila

"Oh, NO!" - Lila

"What happened, Daddy?" - Lila, asking daddy why he's covered in mud (from a bike ride).
